How are crypto and gambling treated in Finland?
Since 1 July 2026 nobody may provide crypto-asset services in Finland without authorisation under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). Paying in crypto does not change the gambling rules. Until 30 June 2027 only Veikkaus may offer online casino games in mainland Finland, and from 1 July 2027 only operators with a Finnish licence may do so. Winnings from games organised outside the EU and EEA are usually taxable as capital income, whatever currency you used to play.
