New casinos often launch with bigger bonuses and modern sites, but they have a shorter track record. These casinos accept players from Austria and opened in the last two years; check the safety data before you deposit.
Can new online casinos get a licence in Austria?
Not yet. The Gambling Act gives the single online casino licence to 脰sterreichische Lotterien (win2day), so every other new brand that targets Austria operates without an Austrian licence, whatever licence it shows from abroad.
The reform agreed by the government in 2026 would replace this with a licensing system. The Finance Ministry published the draft on 29 June 2026. According to legal analysis of the draft, new online licences would be possible from 1 October 2027, when the current licence expires, and operators that serve Austria without authorisation would have to stop by 1 January 2027 to qualify for a licence later. These details can still change before the law is passed.
To check any new site, look at the information on licensed operators and illegal gambling published by the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF). If the reform enters into force, the ministry will publish the list of new licensees there as well. For sports betting, check the licence of the relevant federal state instead.
Are new casinos safe for players in Austria?
A new casino has fewer complaints simply because it has had fewer players. Look at the licence, the owner and whether the owner runs other casinos with a good record. Start with a small deposit and test a withdrawal early.
Online casino games in Austria may only be offered under the federal licence held by 脰sterreichische Lotterien (win2day), and advertising unlicensed gambling to Austrians is a punishable offence.
